The Khan Academy is a not-for-profit educational organization created and sustained by Salman Khan. With the stated mission “of providing a high quality education to anyone, anywhere”, the Academy supplies a free online collection of more than 2,000 videos on mathematics, science, history, and economics.
Salman Khan is a Bangladeshi American born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. His father hails from Barisal, Bangladesh. Khan holds three degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology: a BS in mathematics, a BS in electrical engineering and computer science, and an MS in electrical engineering and computer science. He also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. In late 2004, Khan began tutoring his cousin in mathematics using Yahoo!’s Doodle notepad. When other relatives and friends sought his tutorage, he decided it would be more practical to distribute the tutorials on YouTube. Their popularity there and the testimonials of appreciative students prompted Khan to quit his job in finance in 2009 and focus on the Academy full-time.

Money is not always everything Mr. Salman Khan’s sacrifice to offer knowledge of mathematics to whole world is great contribution to humanity and its free of greed. Leaders of this country should take a lesson or two from this Great Bangladeshi not Indians or Paki. Bangladesh is one of poorest and highest dens of population in the world Salman has Biggest Heart of Giving Free Knowledge nor the Indians and Pakis will never do that. Also must respect “Novel Prize Winner Prof. Mohammed Yunus” of Bangladesh for his contribution to “Micro Loan” to help the poorest to stand on their feet have a life. Currently Prof. Yunus is working to bring computers to the poorest children s of Africa. Great heroes of our times and they are both proud son of Bangladesh. We learned a great deal of self sacrifice from them.
It’s true, Bengalis are far more giving to the world than India or Pakistan without asking for anything in return. That’s why Bangladesh is aggressively working to become a poverty-free middle-income country. And Bangladesh is aggressively working to educate all women in the country regardless of their economic status. I hope Bangladesh becomes the next Malaysia.
I am very grateful to Khan Academy for helping daughter pass her Algebra class. My daughter spends 8-12 hours a day browsing internet over Facebook and other sites i can’t keep track of her. I figured since she spends all that time in internet why not guide her to http://www.khanacademy.org/ and it worked for her. Good Bless you Mr. Khan..
Yes you are right…it’s better to do something productive online then not to do it.
